What Factors Affect Sport Performance?
Contrary to popular belief, there are several factors that affect sport performance.
Notice in the diagram below that you, the athlete, are just one of the factors.
One phrase that you will hear us say all the time at Life-Changing Coaching is: “It’s all connected.” We help you figure out how those other factors are affecting how you perform in your sport. We then help you devise a plan to turn your challenges into opportunities to improve your sport performance.
What is Performance Coaching?
Performance coaching is helping athletes develop the most important organ in their bodies, their BRAINS.
When Los Angeles Lakers’ basketball player Ron Artest credited mental skills coaching for some of his success on the court, many people were surprised. They had assumed his success was due to his phenomenal basketball skills. But his physical skills were only part of the story. Another part of the story was the invaluable mental skills training that he received. And he is not alone. Research shows that if two athletes have the same levels of physical skill and fitness, the athlete with the STRONGER MIND will always win.
Performance coaching (also known as mental skills coaching or sport psychology) help athletes consistently perform in the upper ranges of their capabilities and more thoroughly enjoy the sport performance process.
Mental skills are those things that you do with your mind that work together with your body to help you achieve your athletic goals. Here is a list of the 10 most important mental skills that every athlete needs to develop to be successful in his or her sport:
- Confidence
- Conscientiousness
- Determination
- Drive
- Focus
- Happiness
- Intelligence
- Passion
- Perseverance
- Resilience
